About the Owner and History of Lauren’s Language Lessons:

My name is Lauren, and I have always been passionate about language and culture.

I graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in International Studies, a minor in Russian language, and a TESL/TESOL/TEFL certification (ESL certification).

I spent several years teaching conversational English classes and culture to international graduate students at Texas A&M with a volunteer organization before going on to teach English in Tainan and Hsin-chu, Taiwan. Back in the States, I taught English as a Second Language lessons with a local language school and worked as a program manager at a Korean-owned test prep center for over a year, helping organize and build programs that would help high-school student improve their English as well as their performance on the SAT and ACT tests. I also taught for 2 years as the high-school reading teacher there, where many of my students had recently immigrated from Korea and sought to improve their English.

In 2012, I started Lauren’s English Lessons teaching ESL to adults in the Houston area. Since then, I have owned and run Lauren’s English Lessons, teaching English in both casual and professional settings. My work in business settings includes teaching directly for and in indirect cooperation with a number of companies and their employees such as Schlumberger, ExxonMobile, Koras, SK, Tadono, GE, Marathon Oil, and many others including several various international consulates. I also offer lessons in a more casual setting for every-day English where some students want to learn how to communicate with their children’s school teachers and others want to learn typical every-day phrases.

I have traveled to over 50 countries exploring culture and language.  I spent time studying in St. Petersburg, Russia and teaching in Tainan and Hsinchu, Taiwan. As an English teacher, I have always loved learning about my students’ cultures, just as much as I love sharing my own with them. I have taught students from all over the globe – from countries including: Taiwan, Korea, China, Japan, India, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Cameroon, Turkey, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Russia, Philippines, Venezuela, Mexico, Bolivia, Argentina, Spain, France, and many others.

I have always been passionate about language, and have done my own fair amount of dabbling in languages. I speak Spanish at a working proficiency, Russian at a basic level, and have learned to read and write various alphabets including Korean hangul, Japanese hiragana, and have begun to learn Dari. Through those languages, I’ve experienced so many rewards. Friendship. Conversation. Camaraderie. Opening my eyes and ears to others’ viewpoints I wouldn’t have understood otherwise. Business opportunities. The ability to ask strangers where to buy water in a foreign city.

For years of running Lauren’s English Lessons, I wanted to be able to offer languages other than just English through my business, so after years of consideration, in 2019, I expanded to offer foreign language opportunities to anyone who wants to learn! Lessons are available online worldwide! Language has opened many doors of friendship as well as business for me personally, and I want others to experience the same rewards that language can give. We are now proud to offer Spanish, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, and Arabic lessons along with our English lessons. We hope to offer many more languages in the near future!

Through my own studies and practice, I understand both the difficulties and the excitement of learning to use another language. So we hope to make that process smooth and enjoyable for you!
