I’m incredibly grateful for Professor Yue’s patience and the way she always takes time to help me improve my pronunciation. She’s consistently available for questions and creates such an energetic, encouraging environment that makes learning Mandarin genuinely a good time!

I really enjoyed the Chinese 101 class and learned a lot! I have been studying on my own with Duolingo and Hello Chinese apps for about a year and a half and decided to take this beginners class for speaking practice in an actual live class to get over my fear of speaking and the “mind block” that happens when people speak to me in Chinese. Ms. Zhu is an excellent teacher! She always has a warm and friendly demeanor that makes you feel at ease. She makes sure everyone gets practice speaking and is very encouraging. I especially like the little drum roll she puts up on the screen when we do well. Her classes are always well planned and thought out. Even though I’ve been studying on my own, I always learned something new or had light shed on something I’ve encountered before but had it explained in a clear way. I hope she’s my teacher for the next class because I have really felt comfortable with her and liked her as a teacher!!
Having said all that, if I were truly a new learner, I would have learned just as well. She made sure things were understood and helped students who needed extra help on things without making a big deal about it. She met us all where we were on our Chinese language journey!!
