What can I expect to learn?
This is an immersive beginner level class appropriate for those with no experience in Japanese. The class is taught heavily in Japanese, using visual aids, context cues, repetition, and other methods in order to help students get acquainted with Japanese. This is a great option for those looking to immerse themselves in Japanese. If you prefer a class that uses more English explanation and eases you into Japanese more slowly, check out our class Japanese 101 for Adults.

By the end of this course, you should be comfortable with the following:
Introductions, greetings/farewells, asking for and talking about basic information and questions, talking about schedules and time, talking about your day or things you did in the past or will do in the future, talking about price and asking the cost of things, Hiragana/Katakana for writing and reading names, any grammar related to above topics. Depending on how quickly the class moves you may be able to cover some additional material.

I loved how Satoko-sensei used so much Japanese in her class from the beginning. She used a lot of pictures and even gestures in order to help us understand and learn. Of course, she explained in English if we really didn’t understand something, but this immersive class really helped us get used to the language quickly!
